Rick has wide litigation experience at all levels in the Western Australian and Federal Courts, most recently in corporations law, contract, partnership and land law cases.

An active member of the legal profession, Rick was a councillor of the Law Society of Western Australia for 13 years, and president of the Law Society of Western Australia in 1992.

Rick has been a member of the Law Council of Australia's Access to Justice Committee since 1987 and was chairman of the Committee from 1994-1997. He is also a member of the Law Council's Federal Courts Advisory Committee. He has been a board member of the legal Aid Commission since 1995.

Rick was made a life member of the Law Society of WA in 2005 for his contribution to law and the legal profession in WA.

Rick is a board member of, and solicitor for, the Perth Bone and Tissue Bank. The Bank stores and provides bone and other tissue for hospitals throughout Australia.

Rick has been a director of a number of private companies over the years and is currently chairman of National Health Call Centre Network Ltd. This is a federal and state government initiative to provide access to health information and services.

Rick is a shareholder of the Cullen family winery in Margaret River.

Rick's other interests include tennis, gardening, and playing the piano and guitar. Rick is a past president of the Cottesloe Tennis Club.
